Inbound Transportation Manager | Campbell Supply Company LLC | Cherry Hill, NJ

General Summary This position will perform the leadership role in transportation for Inbound Raw Materials and Packaging sourced through Campbell's Global Procurement. Negotiate and maintain favorable freight rates, reviewing and converting FOB terms on supplier contracts. Execute strategic sourcing and buy decisions through operational plans across assigned transportation mode categories in support of the department and corporate goals and objectives. Lead strategic productivity initiatives that generate cost savings and process improvement while maintaining high levels of customer service.

Sets the standards for effective negotiations, FOB Terms Conversion, transportation competency, and company compliance to Federal, State and internal regulations and guidelines reducing risk and exposure. Responsible for contractual control and rate negotiation for the a transportation category for North America. Provide cost impact analysis and recommendations.

Develop partnerships and manage relationships and performance with the suppliers/carriers utilizing key performance metrics. Look for and analyze new opportunities that will enhance our logistics network through business process and statistical analysis.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Accountable for the management of a transportation budget of over $160+ million.
  • Partner with Procurement, review all FOB terms in Supplier contracts. Initiate a review/conversion timetable based on financial opportunity and/or business need.
  • Champion supplier and carrier negotiations and relationships - ensure contracts support lowest costs and superior service initiatives.
  • Develop and execute "Carrier Buy" strategies in support of procurement strategic sourcing methods with a Core Carrier Program based on mode expertise, category management, industry assessment and needs of the business - conduct RFP, RFIs and carrier bids.
  • Identify and lead productivity initiatives that generate cost savings, cost avoidance and/or service improvements.
  • Must have ability to formulate and implement legally binding contracts; expected to understand costing, performance measurement and accountable for creation, deployment and monitoring of key performance metrics.
  • Perform supplier assessments, disseminate monthly carrier and supplier scorecards and monitor overall performance against scorecard goals and expectations.
  • Maintain certification in Hazardous Materials as stated by the prescribed governing bodies.
  • Question conventional logistical practices and execute programs that leverage our mass that result in lowest imaginable costs.
  • Reduce risk and exposure by understanding the complexities of legislation and ensuring compliance: Department of Transportation (DOT), State, Federal and Surface Transportation Board (STB) regulations; including transportation documentation. Ensure communication on issues that may have a national or local impact.
  • Link with other areas of the organization including Procurement, PF, Supply Chain, CLMs, TMC and the Field operations.
  • Accountable for the efficient and effective utilization of all transportation management operations in support of both raw material and finished goods shipping requirements consistent with the companies customer service and cost targets.

    • Bachelor's degree in supply chain related field
    • 7+ years of supply chain related experience - preferably transportation
    • Good communication, presentation and teamwork skills
    • Good quantitative and analytical skills
    • Ability to work under pressure
    • Proficiency in desktop software applications
    • Ability to interact with all levels with customers, 3rd party providers and internal stakeholders

    Working Conditions
    • Office environment with ~ 20% travel requirements
