Senior Ergonomist | Amazon | Seattle, WA
Overview: The North American Senior Ergonomic Program Manager will be responsible for partnering with the North American Fulfillment Centers (NAFC) in our Fulfillment Network to develop an ergonomics assessment program, improve current network, design-in ergonomic standards and assist in the development and implementation of the Amazon ergonomic standards. Specifically, this position will be responsible to provide technical and administrative support in areas such as design-in-safety, risk assessment, job safety analysis, FC ergonomic issues, ergonomic process design and integrating ergonomic practices into operations processes. The North American Senior Ergonomic Program Manager must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. This manager will be required to possess excellent safety program and relevant safety knowledge, environmental and ergonomic knowledge and can demonstrate this expertise when working with Operations. Responsibilities: - Analyze safety metrics and review incident weekly and monthly incident trends to discover trends to justify the allocation of appropriate resources to areas where the safety risk is highest.
- Possess a detailed understanding of applicable legal requirements (i.e.: Codes, Standards, and Administrative Policies) and provide technical expertise, regulatory knowledge and Amazon Safety policies.
- Provide program technical and administrative support in areas such as design-in-safety, risk assessment, job safety analysis, FC ergonomic issues investigation and resolution, ergonomic process design, development and programming of safety systems, and integrating ergonomic practices into operations processes.
- Provide technical capability to the safety and engineering activities as they develop ergonomic processes and procedures that will reduce soft tissue injuries to Amazon associates
- Assist in the development of ergonomic related PMV's and/or the integration of ergonomic elements into current PMV's
- Perform workplace risk assessments, assess work environments and analyze how Associates use equipment and machinery and use assessment results to identify areas for improvement.
- Provide 'single-point of contact' to the safety team for understanding existing and developing ergonomic regulations and regulatory activity (compliance of new technologies with applicable codes and standards)
- Function as technical resource for FC and regional safety staffs in ergonomic process design, issues investigation and resolution
- Serve as technical resource to the engineering team
- Deliver on-time and quality projects to Operations. Deliver quality projects on time to Operations.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and administer multiple complex & technically complex assignments concurrently
This is an individual contributor role.Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor degree is required in applied ergonomics or other engineering disciplines
- Five years + experience serving as an ergonomic technical resource, program specialist, or program manager
- Experience interfacing with the distribution center &/or fulfillment center's safety and leadership teams
- Experience managing, influencing, negotiating and communicating across business teams to meet org capacity needs
- 5+ years demonstrated experience with a high level of analytical skills suited for solving complex problems in ergonomic design, incident investigations and related ergonomic issues in a distribution center &/or fulfillment center environment
- Graduate degree from recognized college or university in applied ergonomics or other engineering disciplines
- Possess or be working towards recognized professional certification in ergonomics
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong oral and written communications skills
- Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
- Experience in a highly analytical culture with demonstrated problem solving ability.
- Experience in a fast paced, changing/growing organization
